Savoury Snacks

There’s a reason that sandwiches are the first thing you think of when reading that while thinking about picnics. They’re simple, versatile, they look great on a platter (hello, Insta snaps!) and can be made so interesting and delicious.

With all the great vegan options on the market today, there are so many great ideas to choose from! Here’s our fool-proof formula for a tasty vegan sandwich:

  • Bread, of course! Regular sandwich loaves will do the trick, but if you’ve got a long day ahead of you, a thicker, crustier variety is your best bet.

  • Leafy greens - for a sandwich, we say the crunchier, the better.

  • Some juicy veg - think sliced tomatoes or capsicum!

  • Flavoursome filling - slice up some tofu and marinade it overnight in your favourite flavours, or pick up one of the delicious mock meats available at most Aussie grocery stores. Mashed chickpeas and mayo are also a great vegan swap for egg or tuna sandwiches!

  • Get saucy! Whether it’s a creamy vegan mayo, barbecue sauce, hot sauce, or all of the above, a great sauce will really tie everything together.

Smorgasbord Desires

If you’re going to have a spread, you have to do it right. We’re talking dairy free cheeses, dips, crackers, fruits - the list goes on!

Pick up your serving platter or cheese board and start by arranging your dairy free cheeses and dips. Cut out a slice or two of your cheese to get them looking extra inviting!

Next, arrange your crackers and vegan meats, if you’re using any. Fold up any larger deli slices in half, and then fold them in half again to make them smaller, perfect for arranging on the board. Line them up around your cheeses and dips, using curvy lines to compliment round bowls and cheese wheels, and leaving spaces for everything else.

Arrange anything left in the remaining spaces on your spread. When it comes to fruit and veggies, don’t forget to cut a few of them up, too!

Sweet Surprises

We may be biased, but we think this is arguably the best part of a vegan picnic. Picture this, you’ve finished all the sandwiches, there are mere crumbs left of the cheeses and you get that oh so familiar craving for something sweet after your feast... Enter the indulgence of your vegan picnic.

Our White Chocolate Raspberry Mud Cake is the perfect treat to add to your Vegan Picnic basket. Filled with our house-made raspberry jam and topped with a swirl of mouth-watering white chocolate icing - it ticks all the boxes. And we can’t have a vegan picnic without a dose of chocolate which is where our brownie selection comes in! Our Choc Chip brownie is not only filled but also topped with chocolate chips to ensure you get that double chocolate fix.

Pair these two with a box of plant-based cookies of your choice and you’ve got yourself quite the spread! A vegan picnic for the memory books, that’s for sure.

Decadent Drinks

With all this talk of all the tasty food suggestions for your next vegan picnic, there’s only one thing missing and that’s something to wash it all down.

We’ve been loving grapefruit juice as of late. These super refreshing citrus fruits are currently in season, making now the best time to enjoy them! Just add some icy soda water, a lime wedge and mint for a summery beverage that’s sure to satisfy.

It really is so simple to create a vegan picnic for you and your loved ones that’s full to the brim with satisfying snacks. All this talk of vegan picnic ideas really has us looking forward to the weekend! Be sure to find a Plant Baked stockist near you to pick up some of our vegan & gluten-free desserts to start filling your picnic basket.
